This particular article is a leaf out of my own life. Had I personally not taken this journey, I would not have been able to endorse the concept of ‘Passion with a Purpose’. In my case after marriage I had to go to USA with my husband. I did not have a work permit and so could not do any kind of job that I would be paid for. Since I could not work in my chosen field I did not have many options. But burning desire to do something was always there. We were soon blessed with a baby girl and when my daughter was 3 years old, was when I felt that I had to do something to keep myself creatively busy… and alive. Besides, my BE and MBA degree I am a trained dancer in the Indian classical dance forms Bharatnatyam and Odissi.. So, when I came upon a flyer of an academy “SUR Academy” that was looking for dance teachers, I immediately volunteered to teach. I always loved dancing and performing but never wanted to take it up as a profession. Through teaching the art forms to kids and adults, I discovered a whole new dimension to the art. Image Credit: Medium If you just work on stuff that you like and you’re passionate about, you don’t have to have a master plan with how things will play out.” – Mark Zuckerberg Not all of us are born with exceptional talents, but we do possess or acquire some special skills that makes us stand out. As kids or teenagers, we had the fire and belief that something we are good at is exciting and easy to make a living. Somewhere up the curve, in the struggle for riches and competing with the world, we trade our dreams for a high paying job and a sophisticated life. Is it too late to make a living out of your passion? Well, definitely no. Whether you are starting your career based on a hobby or adapting to it in mid stage, I believe it’s achievable coupled with fair amount of hard work. While it’s an added advantage to do something you like, it doesn’t mean it comes easy. To be a natural at something is a blessing. If one can’t make a full-fledged career out of their passion, its best to incorporate that into the job you are doing. For e.g., I have a knack for writing. Throughout my professional tenure, I was on the lookout for writing opportunities, whether it was for authoring Internal Magazines or drafting communication mails.
