Woman looking at the mirror and smiling happily - No matter what the world says, its ok to live your life

Image Credit: Pexels Even the busiest of the people will gladly find time out of their lives to criticize you- behind your back or right on your face. While you struggle to live up to everyone’s expectations, the murmur among the people never seems to die. Each human being possesses thoughts and perspectives of their own leading to the situation that no one will ever manage to please everyone around them. And that sort of thing isn’t even necessary. Really. So, no matter what the world says, it is quite alright to-   Be a homemaker OR a working woman: Depending on the thoughts the people around you hold, they will either encourage you to work, or nag you to leave your job; which is absolutely none of their business. You are an adult possessing complete sanity to think about what works best for you. Your choice is your own. Your child, your home, your job, your life.   Make mistakes: Unless you are literally or figuratively stabbing someone in the heart, mistakes are alright. If you have hurt someone, apologize and move on. Took a bad decision that ruined your life? Forgive yourself and be cautious next time. You are human. You are bound to make some serious errors in life, but you are intelligent enough to learn from them, right?   Be selfish: Being a good human being is like wearing beautiful but heavy earrings. People love them, but you have to bear its weight. It is a […]

Why a homemaker should return to her career.

Homemaker turned career woman - image of a woman in blazer walking with a smile

Image credit: Pexels “Once a homemaker, not always a homemaker” You are blessed with the ability to bear the offspring of the human species. The teeny baby that just arrived out of you needed you the most and you went for a career break. There are some capable women who got back to their jobs right after their maternity leave was over. Then there are some lovely homely ladies who decided to stay at home just to look after their little ones. Well, kudos to both of them. Let’s talk about the homemakers. Dear homemakers, I know you might now be cozy in the comfort zone of your house, venturing out only to run some errands or meet a few friends. But I also know that you do have a secret desire in your heart to go back to the job you once had, to do something- anything to get back to the life of a proud, working, independent woman. If you don’t, here are a few reasons why you should:   Money- Although most people overtly accept the philosophical convention that money doesn’t bring happiness, the thought of having abundant money in their possession is exhilarating for many. You could earn yourself and contribute your share to the income. You can even save some of it for your child’s education, the latest car, an exclusive holiday trip or the exceedingly overpriced branded dresses you longed to have. More the money, more the exciting stuff can you buy. In case […]

Chasing Dreams – My restart story

Chasing Dreams - My restart story

Image source: Pexels Today I was rudely woken up from my slumber by the shrill sound of the phone. Still groggy from sleep I answered the phone but after answering I was on cloud nine. I had become a celebrity overnight and I beamed with joy. The journey of my life was going to be published by Internshala an important website. I went into flashback. The lanky, school-girl who had opted for science in her plus two as she wanted to make her mark in the field of medicine. She came from a lineage of medicos, so it was a natural choice. But it seemed dissecting cadavers was not her cup of tea. So medicine was dropped and the focus was on research. She hoped to discover the ‘Elixir of life’. Armed with a doctoral degree she was ready to face the world. Her only aim was to procure a good job and she was rewarded in the form of a Research Associate-ship. It was a tenure bound project which she completed with elan. She hoped to reach for the stars with her academic excellence but it seems God had other plans for her. She soon found herself in holy matrimony and thus started a new phase in her life. She had procured a good job in a research institute. But within a year of marriage, she had embraced motherhood and career was put on a backburner. Friends and relatives chided her for leaving her job but she had taken […]

En route to Linguistic Career

Linguistic career - image of different language script from all over the world saying HELLO

Image credit: studyfrenchspanish You may have to bear with me for a few minutes while I share a short recap. Exactly a month ago one of my bestie, Techie by profession and a doting mother, was in a deep oscillation whether to take up a offer from a Tier 2 MNC or to take a break in her career and be a SAHM for quite some time. The conversation lasted long, more than fifteen minutes. She asked me to explain about the career aspects in learning a Foreign Language. At that time I had no idea about it, but I  knew a few people who were pursuing a Linguistic Career. I concluded that I shall help her out once I ask them and let her know about it. That’s the birth story of this post. Pre-requisites: Self Motivation-Never give up attitude. Experts quote that learners feel fresh during their initial days but their zeal to learn fades when they find some hurdles during their process of learning. It will help you in progress. Read for Pleasure-An urge to read any kind of literature in the target language. Career Resurgence

Career Resurgence

‘Everyone falls down. Getting back up is how you learn to walk.’ – Walt Disney Few Women have the luxury of an uninterrupted career. For others, there comes an inevitable situation which necessitates a break.  Besides from break, owing to a multitude of factors, some experience a slump and struggle for a Career Resurgence. Having ruled the roost for years, it seems daunting to make a comeback. There are moments of cynicism, with so many “If’s” and “Buts”. So, is it really that difficult to revive one’s career after a break or a slump? I personally feel it’s all in the head and with the virtues of determination and hard work, it’s possible to make a stellar comeback. During my one-on-one with my team, I came across the predicament of a few who felt buried deep and strived for a revival. In my discussions, I usually recommend a couple of things to be followed vigorously to gain a strong foothold and make headway. To summarise my views in a nutshell: Start slow and work hard. Don’t expect immediate results or vast transformations. Take time to soak in the work environment. If you were on break, exploit the skills you have acquired. For e.g., if the reason for break is maternity, utilise the immense patience, hardworking qualities you have obtained in the sabbatical to your advantage. Highlight your progress to your managers, big or small. It’s not about gloating, but showcasing your potential and reinstating the faith they have in you. Seek […]
