Steve Jobs once said, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle”.People seek to change careers for many different reasons. Life’s goal might have changed, there could be new interests been explored that people might want to incorporate in their new jobs, one might wish to make money and for most of the women it might be due to the flexible hours they get to balance both their family and work. The reasons may be ceaseless, but the hankering to seek knowledge must never degenerate. Here are the six steps that helps people to succeed during the Career Change phase.

  1. Analyse – Are you satisfied with the current Job?

People tend to face a repercussions at their workplace. It might happen often or tend to be intermittent. It is a good practice to keep a track of the job situation daily. It might be the problems that we face, people at workplace, the nature of the work , or the company’s culture. Before we even decide that it’s time for a change and determine to move on with the current job, we need to look up to the situations at the present office and never set back to solve them up.

  1. Research – The interests.values and skills

People need to analyze their interests, review their past experiences, projects they have worked on and jobs to identify which role would best suit them further.Current career must be able to address the core values and the skills.There are several online tools that help people to choose career alternatives.

  1. Brainstorm – Consider alternative careers

One needs to research for career options and discuss the core values and skills with friends, family and networking contacts.Meeting up with a career counselor would be a lot more help to choose the right career.

  1. Connect – Get Personal

After deep analysis, and choosing the perfect career, connect with the people of the sectors for informational interviews. Connecting with the college alumini is one of the best networks which helps in better understanding of the verticals. LinkedIn is also an another great resource for finding  contacts in specific field of interest.

  1. Build – Use your strength

Listing out all the talents including those that others compliments on and building up the career based on these strengths will give people a clarity on what’s right for them.It helps to move faster, paid higher and find better jobs.

  1. Learn – Get new skills

One needs to study the industry they want to enter.If there is any gap in the skill sets, taking courses would be of great help in moving and sail in the industry with same pace.

It is nothing wrong on taking a second chance or choosing a different career, after all not all the roads are straight. When there are different routes, it is one’s choice to choose which will lead a way to their desired destination. Albert Einstein has always been so inspirational that he said “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new”. To be a better person and to self identify, all that require is to take a step further.
